Engaging with young people is a real challenge for many social landlords but hearing views, concerns and questions from younger tenants is crucial.
So once again, TPAS, TPAS Scotland, TPAS Cymru and Supporting Communities from Northern Ireland, have joined together to present this exciting, informative and interactive online workshop sharing good practice from the four nations.
Shaping Tomorrow’s Homes: Why youth engagement is key to leading change - This inspiring and thought-provoking session explores how Bolton at Home working in partnership with the amazing charity RECLAIM, delivered an engagement programme for young residents, enabling them to shape their policies and services, and hold them to account. They will share with you how they set up a “youth scrutiny panel”, the impact it made, and how it gave space to young working-class residents to voice their concerns, and tackle some of the housing challenges they and their communities faced.
Hear from Northern Ireland about the challenges landlords face in engaging with young people and the barriers that prevent youth engagement with their landlords. Hear about some good practice examples of approaches used and the link between increasing involvement and improved housing services.
James Begley, Youth Work Manager from the Northern Ireland Youth Forum will talk about their role and their recruitment of young, enthusiastic and determined people who are driving change in NI in various ways and various platforms. He will also discuss the positive impact they are having in communities here and the important link between their work and social landlords.
