19th October 2022, 5:30-6:30pm
Are you living in the private rental sector (PRS)?
From December 1, 2022, the Renting Homes (Wales) Act will make renting a home in Wales clearer. Among the changes, it will provide greater protection for renters (called ‘contract-holders’ under the Act). The Welsh Government is seeking the views of both landlords and tenants on a proposed change to the possession notice period that applies if a contract-holder is not at fault.
For new periodic standard contracts agreed on or after 1 December 2022, landlords must give at least six months’ notice to end the contract if the contact-holder is not at fault. However, currently, existing periodic assured shorthold tenancies that convert to periodic standard contracts on 1 December will be subject to a no-fault notice period of only two months.
The Welsh Government is currently consulting on:
-
whether the new six-month notice period for a no-fault possession notice should also apply to converted standard occupation contracts and, if so;
-
when this proposed notice period increase should take effect.
TPAS Cymru is arranging a consultation event for private rental tenants on behalf of the Welsh Government, who will facilitate the session.
This is your chance to hear directly from Government to understand what this consultation is all about. The session will be held on the 19th October, 5:30 - 6:30pm
