Rent Consultations – learning from others

11th October 2022, 10am-12pm

Rent Setting & consulting tenants is one of the hottest topics right now. As a sector we need to be better so don’t miss out on this new essential webinar to learn from 3 exclusive case studies from Scotland & Wales about how to make rent consultation work.

For tenants the cost-of-living crisis is massive.  Tenants are facing crippling energy bills and potentially significant rent rises.  Rent affordability is going to come under significant scrutiny.

Over the last decade, Welsh Governmental rent setting policy was strictly linked to inflation (CPI). Rents generally rose above inflation and so did standards. That model now looks concerning for tenants. We are now in a period of high inflation potentially topping 10% – which could mean some eye-watering rent rises for tenants. We are already hearing whispers of rises of more than 6% being proposed.

Good tenant engagement is needed and under the Welsh Government’s (WG) current ‘Rent and Service Charge Standard’ there is a clear expectation on social landlords around effective tenant engagement and consultation.   Indeed, the Annual Self-Certification Monitoring Return submitted to WG by landlords requires landlords to demonstrate and outline “the tenant involvement (engagement, consultation and feedback) undertaken and how feedback received has influenced your rent setting policy.”

Given the potential size of rent rises, tenants deserve better in terms of consultation.  TPAS Cymru has had a number of landlords contact us about this subject, and therefore we have arranged this session to discuss approaches to rent consultations and best practice.

During this session we will hear from 3 fantastic case studies from Wales and Scotland. Speakers include:

  • River Clyde Homes (Scotland)
  • Caerphilly County Council
  • Merthyr Valley Homes

We all could benefit from hearing good case studies.  However, this session will not just be case studies, we will then switch to a discussion and networking format to share experience and ideas. You will leave this session inspired and ready to tackle this important issue within your organisation.

Don’t miss this chance to hear about some of the fantastic practice surrounding rent consultation and the opportunity to network with others and draft ideas on how you could approach this within your organization.

This session is suitable for staff, board members and engaged tenants.

Cost (+Vat):
Tenants – free
Staff – £59 + vat
Board members – £59 + vat
Non-TPAS Members - £119 + vat
