Placemaking is something we should all be thinking about and a word we should all be using.
Be a part of our brand-new Conference to get the latest information about Placemaking and hear from our expert speakers as to how people can be at the heart of the process, work to create places that are vibrant and where people across Wales can develop a sense of belonging.
The way places are planned, designed, developed, and managed has the potential to positively shape where and how people live, work, socialise, move about and engage. Placemaking needs to engage with people to ensure it contributes positively to creating or enhancing environments within which people, communities, businesses, and nature can thrive.
It gives a name to something so many of us are already doing which is looking at our planning and design of homes and community spaces with a holistic approach with the focus on a positive outcome.
This one-day only conference held at the beautiful and historic City Hall, Cardiff will allow us to dive into this topic as a community and explore where we could go in the future.
Join us for this conference to get the latest on Placemaking from those working with it day-to-day.
During this engaging conference we’ll explore some key areas including:
-
How can we ensure communities can influence and be part of how places and spaces are designed, programmed, and managed.
-
How can Placemaking support healthy equity, fight social isolation, or advance sustainability and resilience.
The packed schedule will include a range of inspiring speakers and real practical case studies from communities, the housing sector and beyond, designed to spark ideas and conversations. These include:
Jen Heal, Design Advisor at the Design Commission for Wales. Jen leads on DCFW’s placemaking agenda advising on policy and leading the development of the Placemaking Wales Charter and Guidance document. Jen also and coordinates events including Places for Life, a conference exploring how to create better mixed-use communities with a sense of place.
Julia David, Partnerships Manager at the Open University. Julia will provide us with a look into the innovative work being completed by the Open University across Wales which puts Placemaking and community development at the heart of their work.
